Figure Drawing Tutorial - Female Figure

Female Figure

Start off by drawing a line of action. As you lay this line down, keep in mind the figure's center of gravity. The figure should be somehow grounded or supported at all times.

Next add all the necessary axes thal will help you plan out the figure's posture. A dynamic feel can be achieved by opposing the hip and shoulder axes.

The next step involves creating a stick-like, gesture, the main focus is to get a nice flow throughout the figure. Using curved lines will help achieve this.

Always think of the figure's as a three dimensional object. Begin to block out your major areas of anatomy. In a standard standing figure, I begin with the legs because they are the grounding point. Next I follow with the torso. The positioning of the  torso is influenced by the positioning of the legs. The arms come next, and they are influenced by the torso. Finally the head, which is influenced by the positioning of the other parts of the body.

Other notes on the female figure

- Has an hourglass shape
- should have sleeker and smoother lines than the male figure
- Width of shoulders and hips should be relatively equal
- Figure should have an overall "slinky" feel
- The arm's elbow should be just above the location of the belly butotn (with the arm hanging down)

#1 Tobogi 2009-10-17 18:04 figure drawing is something that is easy to teach but hard to master (some what like chess)

nobody should jump into manga style if they never have done any figure drawings in their life.

but i have also talked to STUDIOQUBE and yes we agree
